IEAA jury member, Founder of Vue Privée,
How does Vue Privee position itself in the art scene of Singapore? What makes it special and how did it start?
Vue Privée’s mission since it’s inception has been to “democratise the world of art” and to empower its’ Singaporean audience with an inspiration to be intrigued by the country’s evolving art scene and budding artists. What sets us apart is our concept of “art as a lifestyle” rather than as a traditional retail gallery model. This has been our mantra since we began our journey two years ago.
Why is Singapore an attractive destination for emerging artists? If you had 5 adjectives to describe the art scene in Singapore which ones would you choose?
Evolving, forward-thinking, empowering, growing, and diverse.
There is an engine that is driving the Singapore art scene and it is driven by several factors; the audience, the artists and the government which has eased censorship. The most important of that equation is the ever-growing number of local artists who are feeling empowered to step outside of the box. Backing these talented individuals is the state-led effort of implementing platforms and initiatives for these artists as well as the growing demand from collectors, both seasoned and new standing by to acquire their works. Emerging artists from outside the region coming to Singapore will find a place amongst other artists and creatives in which to draw inspiration as well as a new audience to appreciate their works and the new ideas they bring with them.
How do you feel to be jury member in the Dubai IEAA and your view about showcasing an Emirati artist in this part of the world? How do you think the public will react?
We are honoured to have been chosen to be an official awards partner of the IEAA because Vue Privée has always been about putting the artist first. A platform such as this gives opportunities and exposure to new talent, something we are always promoting. Bringing an Emirati artist to Singapore, where there are so little of them being exposed, is a rare opportunity for any Singaporean-based gallery. We believe that any new ideas of the winner, brought to our public from another region of the world such as the UAE, will be welcomed as a new experience.
What is your advice to the participants?
Our advice to the participants is simple: speak to us and inspire us.
